Organic Grooves/William Parker/Hamid Drake: Black Cherry

(AUM)

3 out of 5

New York's Organic Grooves have taken "The sound science of William Parker and Hamid Drake" and turned it into a club mix.

Considering that Parker is one of the most fiercely adventurous of double-bassists, and that his duets with drummer/tabla player Drake are dedicated to spontaneity, the chemistry may seem strange, but the latter's control of pitch, and Parker's fertility of ideas do come through.

The pair's original album Piercing the Veil was already on the way to infinite-grooves territory, and as background music to a summer chill-out this could be surprisingly appropriate.

You might drift off, but I don't think they would mind.
